Brendan’s Bio
I started playing traditional music on guitar and tin whistle in a ceilidh band in Dublin. After arriving in Australia, I’ve played Korean and European music on violin in orchestras and sung African, Fijian and Gaelic songs in choirs. I’ve been the highland piper at over a hundred weddings, funerals and other ceremonies as well as playing for Australian bushdances and ceilidhs in Darwin and Brisbane.
Through my interest in music I’ve seen many parts of Australia by attending festivals from Perth in WA to Kuranda in Queensland including running the Irish music session at the Guinness Bar at Woodford and playing at Glen Innes.
I’ve sung/played in the Caledonian pipe band, the Humpty Doo Rural District pipe band, Murphy’s Law, Crubeen, Darwin Male Voice Choir, Treble Without a Chord, and the TopEnd Folk Club in the Northern Territory.
In Queensland I’ve played in Sunas, Ishka, Blarneystone, the Queensland Korean Orchestra, Indooroopilly Chamber Orchestra, Queensland Irish Association Pipe Band and the Queensland Irish Choir.
Having completed a Teaching Degree in Adult Education I’ve taught many interested people to play Celtic music on several instruments. Recently I’ve come full circle and will be in County Clare next year.
